Serving Devotees Through the Sacred Month of Shravan
The month of Shravan (July–August) holds deep spiritual significance for devotees of Lord Shiva. During this holy period, thousands of devotees, known as Kanwariyas, undertake barefoot journeys to offer sacred water to Shiva temples, chanting “Har Har Mahadev” as they walk.
Shri Kashi Vishwanath Seva Samiti considers it a privilege to support these dedicated pilgrims through free service camps, nourishment, and essential care during this spiritually charged yatra.
The Significance of Shravan Mela
Shravan is considered the holiest month in the Hindu calendar for Lord Shiva devotees. The spiritual energy of this time draws lakhs of people from rural and urban regions alike to participate in Kanwar Yatras and visit Shiva temples with great devotion.
However, the journey can often be physically demanding and exhausting, especially for elderly or underprivileged devotees. That’s where our Seva Samiti steps in– to serve with empathy and humility.
Our Support During Shravan Mela
Each year, during the Shravan Mela, we organize dedicated Seva Camps offering:
Free Food Distribution (भंडारा सेवा):
Wholesome, sattvic meals served daily to thousands of devotees—prepared with love and offered as prasad.
Safe Drinking Water Stations (जल सेवा):
Purified water is made available at multiple points to keep pilgrims hydrated during their long walks.
Resting Zones & Shade Areas:
Temporary shelters with mats and fans to provide comfort and relief to tired pilgrims.
Medical First-Aid Services:
Basic health support, including treatment for dehydration, blisters, and fatigue, available on-site.
Volunteer Assistance:
Guidance, crowd support, and emotional comfort are offered by our dedicated volunteers with folded hands and compassionate smiles.

Shravan Mela in Kolkata
Although the Shravan Mela is celebrated nationwide, the footfall at key Shiva temples in Kolkata increases exponentially during this period. Our Samiti operates multiple service points around these temples, ensuring every devotee receives the help and hospitality they deserve- regardless of age, background, or means.
